  • Sunday Lunch

    This Sunday, April 28
St. Philip’s Sunday Lunch provides a community meal on the last Sunday of every month at 12 noon in our Parish Hall. Volunteers help with setup, cooking, serving, and cleanup. We also ask our volunteers to sit and eat with our guests and get to know them. If you have not volunteered before or haven’t volunteered in a while, it would be great to have you join us. Approximately 100 guests are served a hot meal every month. The entree is provided by the local restaurant Jake’s Joint, and St. Philip’s provides the desserts and beverages. If you would like to sponsor a Sunday Lunch, the cost is $125.

  • Graduation Sunday

On Sunday May 12 we will honor and recognize our high school seniors as well as members of the parish who graduate from college or vocational school. If you are or know of a graduate, please let Crystal know.

  • Pentecost Sunday

According to Christian tradition, the Day of Pentecost commemorates the day when the Holy Spirit was poured out on the disciples in Jerusalem after the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Many Christians mark this date as the beginning of the Christian Church as we know it. The Day of Pentecost is celebrated 50 days after Easter. Church services on this day are marked by red robes and banners signifying the fiery winds of the Holy Spirit. Red flowers may adorn altars and other areas. The Day of Pentecost is one of the major Feast Days of the Church. It is traditional to have baptisms on Pentecost, and this year we will have a baptism at the 10:30 service. At the 8 a.m. service we will renew our baptismal vows.

  • Nominees for Presiding Bishop

The Episcopal Church’s next presiding bishop will be chosen this June from a slate of four nominees, whose names were released April 2:

Nebraska Bishop J. Scott Barker, Pennsylvania Bishop Daniel G.P. Gutiérrez, Northwestern Pennsylvania Bishop Sean Rowe and Atlanta Bishop Robert Wright.

Those four bishops – and any additional candidates nominated by petition – will be presented for election at the 81st General Convention, which convenes June 23-28 in Louisville, Kentucky. The nominees’ names will be formally submitted June 25 during a joint session of the House of Bishops and House of Deputies. On June 26, the bishops will elect, and deputies will be asked to confirm, the church’s 28th presiding bishop, who will succeed Presiding Bishop Michael Curry beginning November 1.
